Important rules for Travelling to Bhutan

1. Indian Nationals Must carry Passport (minimum 6 months validity) with two photocopies, alternatively, you may also carry your voter ID (EPIC). Other ID proofs are no longer valid for entry into Bhutan.  Minors may bring a Birth Certificate (in English). Carry multiple copies of passport size photograph of each person.
2. Tourists must have accommodation pre-booked & carry booking voucher for obtaining the permit.
3. Bhutan government provides additional requirements of documentation which may change from time to time. Before travel, you must consult our travel experts about the full details of the documents required.
4. In the absence of these documents, tourists may be returned from the Phuentsholing border / Paro Airport. Tripsy has no role to play in the matter of the issuance of tourist permit by Bhutan government and in case a tourist is denied entry due to lack of documents, no refund will be admissible.
5. Bhutan entry permits are generally not issued during holidays and Sundays. You should plan your tour accordingly so that you do not reach Phuentsholing on the previous day and thus get stuck without getting a permit the next day.
6. Restricted area permit for Punakha is issued from Thimphu and the same rule about office opening is applicable there.
7. Bhutan government is making it compulsory for tourists to be accompanied by a guide. The rule is in the process of being applied, once the rule is applied fully, there will be an additional guide charge of Rs. 2000 per day for a group. This cost is not included in the cost given; please discuss the status of the guide charge at the time of booking your tour with our executives.
8. The official currency in Bhutan is Ngultrum (Nu) which is pegged against Indian currency (1 Re = 1 Nu). Indian currency is well accepted in Bhutan however, notes of Rs. 2000 is not accepted and notes of Rs. 500 may be difficult to use. Credit card and travellers' check are accepted at very few places.
9. Cigarette smoking and use of tobacco are banned throughout Bhutan. Tourists are advised not to carry cigarette or smoke the same in Bhutan.
10. Pure vegetarian hotels are very rare in Bhutan. Most hotels serve both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. Region-specific food is not available in Bhutan.
11. A small car can carry a maximum of 4 passengers. For 4 to 6 passengers we use Hiace Van (or Similar, for Paro to Paro tours) and Innova (or Similar, for tours originating and ending in India). For more than 6 passengers, a High roof Toyota vehicle (or Similar) is used.
12. The vehicle used is on the itinerary basis and not on a disposal basis.
13. Many major attractions in Bhutan now charge an entry fee for regional tourists. The amount may vary from 10 to as much as 500 (for entry to Taksang Monastery), the entry fee is not included in the package cost and will be borne by the tourists as and when required.
14. For Extra person or Child with an extra bed, almost all hotels provide a mattress or a rollover. Additional beds are rarely available or provided.
15. Bhutan is half an hour ahead of the Indian time zone.
16. Shorts, half pants are not permitted while entering a dzong, temple, monastery.
17. In many religious places, sneakers are not permitted.
