Kaziranga National Park is one of the most desired wildlife destinations in India. The national park has a unique diversity in relation to the fauna and flora. Apart from Rhinoceros and Tiger, the park is also known for its large bird population which attracts a good number of Bird watchers here. The scenic beauty of the park is magnificent. One of the main reasons is the presence of the great Brahmaputra River on the northern fringe of the forest.
Kaziranga due to its geographical location receives heavy to very heavy rainfall which helps the grassland and marshland grow and provide good foliage for the wildlife. But this is also the reason the park gets flooded often as the mighty Brahmaputra flows through the park. During heavy flooding, the death of wildlife is also not uncommon. Due to the nature of the forest and the weather here, the Kaziranga remains closed for visitors for about half of the year, starting from May till about the beginning of November.

If you as a Tour operator want to showcase the beauty of the North East, you have to consider Kaziranga as one of the most important destinations in the region. It is one of the most sought after destinations in the region and forms a very important part of the famous Golden Triangle of North East. The Golden Triangle consists of Guwahati – Kaziranga – Shillong.
The first thing to remember is that the forest remains closed almost 6 months a year. Every year the forest department announces the exact date of closing and opening of the national park. Generally, it remains closed from May to October. Sometimes the forest may remain open even until the end of May, again it may open during the first week of October. However, May and October are never guaranteed and the forest department may close or open the forest with short notice. So if you as a travel agent send guests during these months, you run the risk of dissatisfied visitors who do not get to enter the forest.
Accommodation options at Kaziranga are among the widest among all the destinations of North East. However since the properties remain closed for half the time, and often have to renovate themselves post the frequent flooding, the tariff is on the higher side compared to other destinations.
Kaziranga National Park has been a pioneer in the area of protecting and conserving the endangered one-horned Rhinos. Kaziranga is also a safe-haven for Bengal Tigers. It is also a precious home for animals like Leopards, Asiatic Water Buffalo, Indian Elephant, Swamp and Hog deer, wild boar, Indian gray mongoose, Indian and Chinese pangolins, Jungle and fishing cat, etc. along with different species of snakes including the Pythons and Cobras.
Birds like Fish Eagle, Imperial Eagle, Dalmatian Pelican, lesser white-fronted goose, Ducks, Asian Open-billed stork, Black-necked stork, kingfishers, different species of vultures, etc are found here.
Kaziranga is a combination of dense Grasslands, open jungles, water bodies like rivers, lakes, etc and swamps. The main vegetation consists of tropical moist mixed and tropical semi-evergreen forests along with alluvial savannah woodland and alluvial woodlands. The feature of the park is it is covered with tall grasses and the trees which are often found here are Indian gooseberry, cotton tree, Kumbhi, Elephant apple, etc.
Tour Operators and Travel agents normally include one to three nights stay at Kaziranga. For one night stay, the most common elephant and jeep safari in the Kohora range are undertaken as a tourist activity. If tourists are staying for two nights, you may cover more forest visit as there are many safaris available here. If your guests have more time, you can include a day tour to Majuli island from here.
Kaziranga is an important part of the Golden Triangle of North East. Apart from Guwahati -Shillong circuit, it can be used as an important destination for a tour combining Jorhat and Majuli. People visiting Arunachal can also visit Kaziranga during their trip. Kaziranga can be included as a continuation of a tour to Western Arunachal Pradesh.
