Phuentsholing

Phuentsholing, (also spelt Phuntsholing) is the gateway to Bhutan, it is the trade capital of Bhutan. Phuentsholing is a small town with nearly 28000 population. Jaigaon (India) is the adjoining town of Phuentsholing. Siliguri is the nearest large city in India (155 km, 4 hours drive away). Phuentsholing is also the financial capital of Bhutan. The Indo-Bhutan border at Phuntsholing basically separates two very different cultures & people living in both countries. Tourist stays for one night while entering and one night while exiting Bhutan in Phuentsholing. Permit to enter Bhutan is issued from Bhutan immigration office here. The office remains closed on Saturday, Sunday & Bhutan government holidays, hence you must plan your tour accordingly so as not to waste a day at Phuentsholing due to holiday.

The nearest railway station is Hasimara, Alipurduar junction & NJP. Nearest Airport is Bagdogra Airport (IXB). Buses and taxi services are available from Siliguri (155 km, 4 hr), Hasimara (19 km, 40 mnt) and Alipurduar (60 km, 1.5 hr) to Phuentsholing regularly.
